OUR SCHOOL COUNCIL

At Bursted Wood Primary School, our School Council serves as the heart of pupil representation, acting as our UNICEF Rights Respecting Steering Group. Through this vital forum, every pupil’s voice is heard, and their rights are championed across the school community.

Our Aims:

  • To represent every pupil by embedding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) throughout school life.
  • To foster a rights-respecting culture where dignity, respect, and fairness guide behaviour and relationships.
  • To empower pupils to take an active role in shaping school improvement and decision-making.
  • To raise awareness and understanding of children’s rights and how these impact lives locally and globally.

The Impact:

  • Pupils develop strong leadership skills and a sense of responsibility.
    • Our school culture grows stronger in respect, empathy, and resilience.
    • Pupils gain a deeper understanding of their rights and those of children worldwide, helping them become informed and compassionate global citizens.
  • The School Council’s work ensures that Bursted Wood Primary continues to improve in ways that matter most to our pupils.

By embedding the UNCRC and promoting pupil voice through our School Council, we nurture a community where every child feels valued, respected, and empowered to make a positive difference.

WORLD CHILDREN'S DAY 2025

As part of our continued commitment to supporting Unicef, the School Council helped to arrange an amazing World Children’s Day on Thursday 20th November 2025. Children across the school wore something blue, styled their hair in a ‘crazy’ way and participated in activities chosen by their representatives, all linked to Article 2 and 8. As a school, we also began the Outright campaign, learning about international aid, and created artwork to encapsulate the positive, welcoming atmosphere we have in our school.
